Privacy policy

This site does not ask you to create an account, and it has no form that sends your details to a server. If you want to contact me you email or call me directly, which means the only personal information I hold is whatever you chose to put in that email.

What the site does collect automatically is standard web analytics and advertising data, through Google Analytics and Google AdSense. Both use cookies. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time, and the links to do that are further down this page.

Like almost every website, this one records technical information when a page is requested. That includes your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the page you requested, the page that referred you, and the date and time. This is standard server log data, generated by the hosting provider, and is used to keep the site running and to investigate problems.

Google Analytics 4 is installed on this site (measurement ID G-BV0JEWXDFM). It records how the site is used: which pages are viewed, how long visits last, roughly where in the world visitors are, and which sites or searches sent them. IP addresses are anonymised by Google Analytics 4 by default. This is used to understand which content is worth writing more of. It is not used to identify individuals, and I could not do so from it if I wanted to.

If you email or call, I receive whatever you send: your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you tell me about your business. That information is used to reply to you and, if we end up working together, to run the engagement. It is not sold, rented or shared with anyone for marketing.

Email correspondence is kept for as long as it is commercially useful, typically the duration of an engagement plus the period required for tax and accounting records. If you want your correspondence deleted, ask and I will delete it, subject to any records I am legally required to retain.

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. This site uses them for two purposes: analytics, through Google Analytics, and advertising, through Google AdSense.

Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of a third party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting aboutads.info. If you disable these cookies you will still see ads, they will simply be less relevant to you.

You can block or delete cookies entirely in your browser settings. Doing so will not break this site. Nothing here requires a cookie to function.

Google, as the provider of Analytics and AdSense, processes the data described above under its own privacy policy, which is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Netlify hosts this site and processes server log data as part of delivering it.

That is the complete list. There are no other analytics tools, no advertising networks beyond Google AdSense, no session recording, no heatmapping, and no data brokers. I do not sell your data, because I have nothing to sell and no interest in doing so.

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and under the GDPR if you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights over personal data relating to you. These include the right to ask what is held, to have it corrected, to have it erased, and to withdraw consent.

In practice, for this site, that mostly concerns email correspondence, since that is the only place identifiable personal data is held. Write to the address at the bottom of this page and I will respond. There is no charge and no form to fill in.

This site sells professional services to businesses. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, tell me and I will delete it.

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Substantive changes will be described rather than quietly edited in. The version you are reading was last updated on the date shown above.
